Sometimes referred to as “above-ground burial,” entombment involves placing a casket in a crypt located within a mausoleum, or placing an urn in a columbarium niche. There are several options available.

A community mausoleum is a building designed specifically for entombing several people. Sharing the costs makes this option more affordable. Our first community mausoleum, in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, was established in 1920. Today, we operate several community mausoleums, both indoor and outdoor.

Indoor Community Mausoleums

Outdoor or Garden Community Mausoleums

Crypts

Designed to hold casketed remains, a crypt is an individual space within a mausoleum, and typically includes a granite or marble front for inscription. We offer a variety of options to meet all budgets.

  • Single crypts, designed for one casket

  • Tandem crypts, designed for two caskets placed lengthwise

  • Horizontal Companion crypts, designed for two caskets placed side-by-side

  • Vertical Companion crypts, designed for two caskets placed one above the other

  • Westminster crypts, designed for two caskets, one placed below floor level, the other above

While our indoor crypts generally have white Carrera marble fronts, outdoor crypts have granite fronts to be more resistant to Toronto’s harsh winters. Typically, mausoleums are built up to five crypts high, and the price depends upon type and location. For example, upper-level crypts are less expensive that those at eye level.
