Therapy Dog Program

We understand the comforting powers that dogs can have in our lives. They know when we are happy, and they know when we need their unconditional love and empathy. During times of grief, a dog’s gentle presence can soothe us, bringing calm and comfort at a very difficult time. We want to provide that level of support to the families we serve. This is why we have launched a Therapy Dog Program at Pine Hills Funeral Centre, with plans for rollout at York Funeral Centre, Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre, the Simple Alternative Pickering and Thornton Funeral Centre.
Our customers and their guests are notified when therapy dogs are on site through signage. Based on their comfort level, if families desire, the dogs can be present during their visitation and funeral service or walk around with the assistance of the pet handlers in a more public setting.
The program consists of a team of volunteer therapy dogs and their owners, certified to meet Mount Pleasant Group’s specific needs. We are looking to grow our group of volunteers who will undergo an evaluation and certification process that will be conducted by a professional therapy dog trainer. The successful candidates will then form our volunteer therapy dog roster, which will allow us to ensure we have a therapy dog present at our funeral facilities on a rotational basis throughout the week.
If you feel your dog may be suitable for therapy dog certification, please apply now to become a Therapy Dog Volunteer.
We anticipate a significant degree of interest in the program. Unfortunately, we will not be able to respond to everyone who applies. We thank you in advance for your submission and if you and your dog are selected for consideration to participate in the program, we will contact you directly.
