Therapy Dog Program

We understand the comforting powers that dogs can have in our lives. They know when we are happy, and they know when we need their unconditional love and empathy. During times of grief, a dog’s gentle presence can soothe us, bringing calm and comfort at a very difficult time. We want to provide that level of support to the families we serve. For this reason, we are embarking on the introduction of a Therapy Dog Program that will be piloted at our Pine Hills Funeral Centre.
Our program will consist of a team of volunteer therapy dogs and their owners, certified to meet Mount Pleasant Group’s specific needs. To get us started, we are actively seeking a group of volunteers who will undergo an evaluation and certification process that will be conducted by a professional therapy dog trainer. The successful candidates will then form our volunteer therapy dog roster which will allow us to ensure we have a therapy dog present in our funeral facility on a rotational basis throughout the week.
When the program is operational, our customers and their guests will be notified when therapy dogs are on site through signage. Based on their comfort level, if families desire, the dogs can be present during their visitation and funeral service or walk around with the assistance of the pet handlers in a more public setting.
If you feel your dog may be suitable for therapy dog certification, and you are interested in applying to become a Therapy Dog Volunteer, click here and email the completed form back to therapydog@mountpleasantgroup.com
We anticipate a significant degree of interest in the program. Unfortunately, we will not be able to respond to everyone who applies. We thank you in advance for your submission and if you and your dog are selected for consideration to participate in the program, we will contact you directly.
