Reverend William Gregg

Born in Killycreen, County Donegal, Ireland on July 5, 1817, Gregg was educated at Glasgow University where he received his B.A. in 1843, and at Edinburgh University where he received his M.A. in 1844. In 1846, Gregg was licensed to preach in the Free Church of Scotland, and came to Canada as a missionary. From 1847 to 1857 he was a minister at St. John’s Presbyterian Church in Belleville, and from 1857 to 1872 he was the minister of Cooke’s Church in Toronto. In 1864, he was appointed lecturer in Apologetics at Knox College in Toronto. He remained on staff as a Professor of Apologetics, then as a Professor of History until he retired in 1895. He died on May 26, 1909. Reverend William Gregg was the author of History of the Presbyterian Church in Canada.
