John Jacob Withrow (founder of today’s CNE) and Frank Hillock formed Withrow and Hillock, Building contractors and lumber merchants in 1865. The firm specialised in the manufacture of wooden sashes and doors, and ran a large lumber yard on the site of new city hall. Hillock died June 10, 1918.
