Robert Jones Sinclair was named “Mr. Lacrosse” by the Ontario Lacrosse Association in 1963. Growing up in Toronto, Sinclair was an award-winning hurdler and participated in all kinds of other sports, but lacrosse was his first love. When he and his wife, Doris, moved to Alderwood in the 1950s there was no organised lacrosse in the area, so he formed the Alderwood Lacrosse Association which helped to keep the kids of Etobicoke off the streets. From 1960 to 1962, Sinclair served as president of the Ontario Minor Lacrosse Association, from 1964 to 1969 he was a member of the executive board of the Ontario Lacrosse Association. By 1970, as vice-president of the Canadian Lacrosse Association, Sinclair was in charge of minor lacrosse in Canada. In 1983, in recognition of his lifetime commitment to the sport, he was inducted into the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame. Robert Sinclair died on April 10, 1989.
