Sarah Exton

Section 17, Lot 2673
Prospect Cemetery

Born in York Township in 1840, Sarah Exton was a resident of the Mount Dennis area, near Eglinton Avenue and Weston Road. A married lady of English extraction, she performed the invaluable duties of midwife, working closely with the highly respected paediatrician Dr. Charlton of Weston. Family members include Phil Exton, a nephew since deceased, who sang with “The Happy Gang,” an immensely popular group whose radio program originated in the 1930s; and great-granddaughter Florence McDowell, an outspoken advocate of ratepayers’ and heritage concerns in the City of York. Sarah Exton was 77-years-old when she died on December 4, 1917.
