Reverend David Flett Smith

Section 23, Lot 183
Prospect Cemetery

Born on March 3, 1875, the zealous Presbyterian Scot was one of the flock of evangelistic Protestants sent out from North America to certain African countries, China and India prior to the Second World War. A native of the Orkney Islands, Rev. Smith found his calling as a missionary in India, where he lived and worked for 32 years, latterly under the aegis of the United Church of Canada. He and his wife were living in London, Ontario when he died of accidental causes. His epitaph is the familiar proselytising New Testament passage: “Go Ye Into all the World and Preach the Gospel to every Creature,” Mark 16:15. David Flett Smith died on December 3, 1938.
