Lillian Clarke

Section 3, Lot 1312
Prospect Cemetery

Born in Embro, Ontario, Lillian Almeda Clarke moved to Toronto shortly after her father died in a 1918 influenza epidemic, and was married in 1926. The family settled in Islington in 1937. She died in 1986 at the age of 79, following a lifetime of community service. A life member of the Royal Canadian Legion’s Col. Streight Branch 210, Lillian received numerous awards for her tireless efforts on behalf of others, including the Legions’ meritorious service award for her community work. She was president of the ladies auxiliary of the branch from 1955 to 1958, and also served, at various times, as vice-president, second vice-president, honorary secretary and honorary treasurer. Over a period of 25 years, she visited Sunnybrook Medical Centre on a monthly basis as auxiliary representative, and oversaw the preparation of “treat” packages for the veterans.
