James Andrew “Jamie” Westcott

Section L, Lot 562
Pine Hills Cemetery

Jamie Westcott was a reporter for The Toronto Sun for three years. He worked the Toronto police beat.  The son of Clare Westcott, former Metro Police Commission chairman, Jamie was only 25 years old when he died on June 13, 1989 following a lengthy battle with cancer. In 1987, Jamie received a civilian citation for helping a Metro police constable in the arrest of a robbery suspect. Early in 1989 he shared a Metro Police Association award with two other reporters for a series on the murder of a Chinese student living in Toronto. While still in school, at Regina Mundi College, Jamie Westcott was the recipient of a special award bestowed on students who excel not only in academics, but also in athletics and participation in school events. Few students ever win it. Shortly after his death, The Sun established the Jamie Westcott Memorial Award, to be given annually for the best police story by a Sun writer.
