Born in Peel County in 1874, Taylor was educated in a small country school near Brampton and attended the University of Toronto, where he graduated from the School for Practical Science in 1902. He became the chief designer of bridges and railways in the city’s Department of Works and, as such, was responsible for the Glen Road bridge in north Rosedale, and the St. Clair Avenue East bridge over the Vale of Avoca, as well as the Prince Edward Viaduct that spans the Don Valley, connecting Bloor Street with the Danforth. Taylor died at his home at 94 Melrose Avenue on December 21, 1936.
