Elgin Mills Cemetery

Elgin Mills Cemetery has proudly served the communities of Richmond Hill, Markham, Aurora and Thornhill since 1979. The headwaters of the Rouge River run through the east end of this young, vibrant cemetery. The numerous trees planted throughout Elgin Mills include a collection of nut-bearing trees that blossom in the spring. The cemetery’s large flowerbeds are planted seasonally, and feeding stations attract birds and wildlife

Ground Burial Options

There are a variety of options available to you when you choose ground burial, including:

  • A single grave that can accommodate a flat marker and maximum of two (2) caskets and four (4) cremated remains may be buried in each grave unless otherwise specified on the document for the purchase of the interment rights
  • A single grave that permits upright monuments and a maximum of two (2) caskets and four (4) cremated remains may be buried in each grave unless otherwise specified on the document for the purchase of the interment rights
  • Larger lots of two or more graves that permit an upright monument

Cremation Options

  • A landscaped columbarium with granite-fronted niches that can be inscribed on the front

  • Special feature areas for urn burial

  • Cremation Burial Plot adjacent to a granite wall, upon which inscriptions may be placed

  • An indoor columbarium with glass-fronted niches to place small mementos beside the visible urn

  • Burial in a grave or family lot

Crypt Entombment Options

Elgin Mills offers indoor crypt entombment options in a climate controlled environment at the Mausoleum of the Heavens, featuring rich Italian white Carrara marble crypt fronts.

Veterans’ Section

The veterans’ section, dedicated to Canadian and Allied veterans and their spouses, features an impressive veterans’ memorial. As a recognition of veterans’ service to their country, the costs of interment rights in this section are reduced.
